Earlier this week, Cumming welcomed one of its earliest team members, Will Smith, back to the company. Originally starting with Cumming in July 1999, Will returned to the UK after approximately one year with the firm to resume his career with GB Fitzsimon, with whom Cumming has since merged. From there, over the next 18 years, Will moved into leadership positions within the contracting, facilities management, and engineering spaces.

“This is a great time for Cumming and our entire UK operation, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Will back into the business,” said Derek Hutchison, President at Cumming.

Will is an exceptional manager and leader, and during his time away served in a number of executive roles for successful industry organizations throughout the UK and Europe. In his latest position, Will was Managing and Executive Director of SPIE UK, a cutting-edge engineering, construction, and building services company. There, he focused on maximizing performance and boosting customer and team member satisfaction. Previous to that role, Will served as a Commercial Director across both regional and national UK businesses, delivering service and construction activities while remaining focused on growing the firms both organically and through acquisitions. This experience served Will well in the UK and across Europe, and will continue to serve him well in his new role at Cumming.

Will earned an Honours degree in Quantity Surveying from Glasgow Caledonian University and a Master’s degree (LLM/PgDip) in Construction Law from The University of Strathclyde & Glasgow Law School. He also completed an international business studies program through ESSEC International Business School, and most recently a business and international leadership program at the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique in Paris.

Will has been rehired to serve as Chief Executive of Cumming’s expanding UK and European operation. He will initially split his time between Glasgow and Edinburgh, with frequent trips to London, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, and other regions of the UK to support the company’s growth efforts.
