Derek HutchisonProject management and cost consulting firm Cumming has appointed Derek Hutchison as executive vice president.

Based in New York, Hutchison will head Cumming’s East Coast U.S. operations and worldwide hospitality sector. He will also drive overall growth while overseeing areas including project and program management, cost management, lender services, and project controls.

“We could not be more pleased to have Derek rejoin our leadership team,” says the company’s founder and CEO Finlay Cumming. “His experience will be a huge asset to our clients, old and new, as we continue our strategic international expansion.”

With a career spanning more than 20 years, Hutchison has experience across all asset classes and has also led teams on development and transactions on more than 150 projects across the Americas and Europe.

Having begun his career as a commercial manager at Bovis Lend Lease, Hutchison worked as a managing principal of Cumming from 1999 to 2012 before being appointed vice president of construction and development at Starwood Capital Group.

While at Starwood Capital, he oversaw numerous high-profile projects, including the development of the award-winning Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York, One Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Pierhouse, among many others.

A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), Hutchison earned a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying from Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland.
