Abstract

Remote work has both benefits and costs. While it allows for greater flexibility and more free time, especially among workers with long commutes, the lack of face-to-face interactions can cause burnout and loneliness – particularly among younger workers. Due to this risk, most companies will likely maintain office spaces but their design needs may shift to accommodate fewer in-person employees and a greater need for virtual workspaces. In this paper, Research Analyst Drew Lantz discusses how offices will look and function in the future and how this may affect design trends.
