Mount Pleasant, SC (August 21, 2020) – After a successful 23 months of construction, work is coming to an end at Charleston County School District’s new Lucy Beckham High School (LBHS). The sprawling LBHS site stretches out over 44 acres in Mount Pleasant and will be the first new high school to be completed by the District in more than 10 years.

Providing construction management and consulting services, Cumming’s regional experts made sure to have the school completed within its original timeline and budget even during these times of uncertainty, allowing teachers and staff to fully prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.

The 245,000-square-foot high school includes 60 teaching spaces, state-of-the-art science labs, and specialized CTE spaces throughout the building. In addition to the traditional classroom settings, LBHS will also feature 11 collaborative learnings areas with stand-up workstations throughout the building and a relaxed seating arrangement in the cafeteria, including eating booths, high top tables, and bench seating, as well as a covered outdoor dining area in the courtyard.

LBHS also includes an auditorium, a high-tech media center, a competition gym and separate auxiliary gym, as well as locker rooms for both athletics and physical education classes.

A separate athletic building adjacent to the main high school features concessions, restrooms, and ample equipment storage. The high school will also have its own competition field with running track, two separate practice fields, and a band tower, all within the 44-acre campus.

LBHS and its expansive onsite CTE program will allow students to enroll in honor and advanced placement classes, choose from several college prep courses, and offer numerous college credit courses. Some of these courses, include architecture and building construction, biomedical, engineering, veterinary technology, homeland/cyber security, law enforcement, marketing, business information management, and programming.

The campus was designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith and was constructed by Contract Construction of Ballentine, SC.
