D-Profiler, Bringing Your Healthcare Project to Life (1 LU)

Learning Units: 1 LU

About this Course

D-Profiler is a conceptual modeling software that provides a high-level graphical representation of a project while also generating a detailed cost estimate. The model can be based on something as simple as a napkin sketch, which can be scanned and loaded into the software as a reference to create a basic 3D mass of the building. Slab areas and exterior cladding can be measured based on the model, while the interiors are added using historical metrics pulled from Cumming’s extensive database of projects. Any changes made to the model are reflected in the cost estimate in real time. One advantage of creating this type of estimate is that it allows for a budget to be backed up with a detailed estimate rather than just a cost-per-square- foot number. This detailed estimate can be used as a target for the project’s design team. During our presentation, we will give a live demonstration of D-profiler creating a construction cost budget of a medical office building: we will start with a sketch and end with a 3D model. Along the way, you will learn about how to read and understand this budget so that it can be effectively used as a target for the design.

Learning Objective 1:

We will demonstrate how the early incorporation of D-Profiler can provide an increased level of detail during the conceptual stage, which will ensure better decision making.

Learning Objective 2:

We will define and explain the impact of benchmarking “the engine behind D-Profiler” and demonstrate how it can assist in the approval process.

Learning Objective 3:

We will describe the many influences and factors that drive costs. We will also present real-time case studies using D-Profiler to demonstrate how the shape of the building affects the overall cost of a project.

Learning Objective 4:

We will demonstrate how a lean/team approach, combined with D-Profiler, can help avoid costly value analysis/engineering and smooth out the wrinkles in the design process. D-Profiler works well with a lean approach that utilizes target value design and, if required, real-time value analysis. This combination of frameworks helps the design phase proceed faster and with fewer complications.
