Dennis Perez, COO of Bellavista Building Group in Maitland, estimates his company has 10 projects in some stage of development, from residential subdivisions to apartments to offices. He says the diversity of jobs is part of what makes Central Florida great for developers.

“A lot of people think Disney is the only thing that drives Orlando,” Perez said. “There are a lot of things that drive Orlando.”

In a new survey, Orlando was named the second-best city to have a construction business by the office support company Alliance Virtual Offices. The City Beautiful’s low labor and materials costs combined with its skyrocketing demand for housing and commercial buildings put it near the top.

“Several companies are opening new offices in Orlando or moving there altogether,’’ the survey report said. “In fact, Disney has announced that it’s relocating about 2,000 employees to the Orlando area. All of this means that O-Town is only going to continue to grow and will need more development.”

The list of eight metros put the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas, at the top. No other Florida city made the list.

In a study by the construction corporation Cumming, Orlando had the lowest building costs per square foot out of 20 of the largest metros in the country.
