Cumming Group is proud to have acted as Project Monitor on behalf of the National Lottery Heritage Fund on the regeneration of Sheerness Dockyard, a former Grade II* church originally built in 1828 to serve the officers and workers of the Royal Naval Dockyard.

After a tragic fire in 2001, the ownership of the site was transferred to Sheerness Dockyard Preservation Trust from the local council to create a heritage-led regeneration project to restore the building whilst conserving it’s interior into a mixed-use community facility.

Simon Mann, Project Monitor commented; “As project monitor for the National Lottery Heritage Fund, it has been a privilege to support the Trust and their highly skilled and passionate project team to deliver the amazing transformation of this historic Grade II* architectural treasure from a state of dereliction to a cathedral-like space; skillfully merging the historic with the modern, and re-purposing it to provide a state of the art facility for local young people to help develop their business aspirations”.

Complete with an events space, business incubator centre for young people and a display gallery to house part of the famous Dockyard Model, the £9.5m development had its official launch on Wednesday 7th June and will reopen to the public in July 2023.
