With their successful merger in 2021, Cumming and Boston-based Fort Point set out to accelerate their shared vision to provide clients the highest level of expertise in navigating the design and construction process.

Now fully integrated, the combined team has doubled in size and already reported significant growth across Boston and Greater New England – adding new service offerings and a number of high-profile projects to their portfolio, from a major biotechnology lab and office space to an Ivy League university.

“Our focus throughout the integration process has been to forge a partnership that opens new doors for us and expands what we can offer clients without compromising our team’s unique culture and deep ties to the local community,” said Christine Mosholder, SVP, Cumming (formerly Managing Partner at Fort Point).

“Moving forward together as Cumming, our Boston team now boasts a more complete offering of project-management expertise across key construction sectors, from life sciences and office space to higher education and more,” added Steve Fox, VP, Cumming (formerly Director of Project Delivery at Fort Point). “I’m thrilled that we’ve achieved this while retaining the same local feel, relationships, and nimble approach that our clients and team members value.”

The Fort Point and Cumming teams touted complementary expertise when announcing the merger more than a year ago, with each business bringing unique specialty offerings within the project- and cost-management arena – allowing the team to offer highly customizable and scalable support for projects of all sizes and needs.

In an interview about the bolstered capabilities of the integrated Boston team, Mosholder pointed to the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) offering as one example of the unique expertise the Fort Point team brought with them to Cumming.

IWMS services include custom implementing solutions like of iOffice, a centralized facilities-management portal for modern workplaces that can help with everything from office moves to asset tracking and more. The team helps tailor modular IWMS solutions to each workplace’s specific needs while helping plan for the system’s long-term maintenance and reporting.

The success of Fort Point’s merger with Cumming points to the strength of the construction market in Greater Boston. Even if overall construction volume in the region declines somewhat, as predicted by Cumming’s latest Insights Report on the region, sizable growth is expected in the manufacturing sector – particularly from biotech companies.

For their part, Mosholder says the combined team stands ready to further grow its presence in the Greater Boston market as key sectors continue to show promise. “Our team of experts knows Boston and has proven themselves on some of the city’s most iconic projects. We’re excited for what we’ll be able to contribute to the growth of Boston as we complete our integration with Cumming.”
