Acting as Project Manager and Cost Manager on the scheme, we are delighted to share that on Thursday 19th January 2023, planning approval was achieved for developer Jadebricks’ new 117-bed aparthotel, located on Oldham Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
The aparthotel will comprise a mix of two, three and four person rooms, with the ground floor and basement containing a guest lounge, luggage store, gym and laundry facilities, as well as a secure cycle storage space and substation with allowance for two independent commercial units. The development sensitively knits together the heritage of the Northern Quarter with sophisticated modern design and aims to bring the previously vacant site back to life.
As far as sustainability is concerned, the scheme is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, the plans will contribute to Manchester City Council’s ambition to be a zero-carbon city by 2038 through reusing existing buildings. It is estimated that the carbon savings from retaining both buildings would equate to running 130 family cars for a year, 470 one-way flights from London to New York and over 220 peoples consumption of meat, dairy and beer for one year.
Modern methods of construction (MMC) will be used to further reduce environmental impacts and low / zero carbon technology will be used when the building is in operation. Bike storage and electric charging facilities to encourage active and sustainable travel.
