10x Genomics is a life science technology company building products to interrogate, understand, and master biology. 10x’s integrated solutions include instruments, consumables, and software for analyzing biological systems at a resolution and scale that matches the complexity of biology. 10x has built deep expertise across diverse disciplines, including chemistry, biology, hardware, and software.

The 1701 project comprises a 153,000 sq. ft. lab, manufacturing facility, clean room, and office space. The project skin was design-build by the contractor while the remainder of the project was plan and spec. The unique challenges for the project consisted of parsed-out permit packages separating out the core and shell with the interiors as well as the structure/foundation and site work. The other aspect that made this project challenging was the fast-track approach to design and construction, where the design was, in most cases, catching up to the work in the field.

Cumming Group was hired as the construction project manager and was responsible for complete construction management, including coordinating the subcontractor buy-out process and managing the project schedule and budget to successful completion. It should be noted that a previous construction management firm managed the project, and Cumming Group was interviewed and hired to replace the previous construction manager.
