Cumming Group provided owner’s project management and cost management services for the construction of a new $25 million, 50,000-sq.-ft. emergency operations and communications center in Horry County, South Carolina. The development includes a critical services data center, the county’s emergency operations headquarters, and 911 operations center. The facility is designed to withstand 160-mile-an-hour winds and flooding. It is also equipped to allow for uninterrupted communication during natural disasters. The structure has redundant critical building systems in place that include a dedicated fiber optics loop, allowing the center to function fully off the grid for at least three days. The project was completed under budget and construction took less than two years.
