Cumming Group provided cost estimating and value engineering for the construction of a new Transportation Management Center (TMC) in Fontana, California. The facility includes a two-story, 45,000-sq.-ft. building and a 120-foot communications tower. Estimates on this approximately $20 million project included all costs required for building components and systems (interior and exterior), as well as related site work. The TMC is the first LEED Gold certified essential services facility worldwide.

The new center co-locates the California Highway Patrol’s 911 emergency response operations and the Caltrans traffic management operations. The facility monitors thousands of miles of roadway running through Southern California. Additionally, as an essential services facility, the building is designed to remain operational during a natural disaster. To ensure absolute safety for its staff, the facility can withstand a 7.5 magnitude earthquake without structural damage or interruption to sensitive telecommunications equipment.
