jetBlue T5 & T5i at JFK, Jamaica, NY

Terminal 5, which opened in 2008 and is primarily used by jetBlue, covers 635,000 sq. ft., has 26 gates, and serves approximately 20 million passengers a year. T5i, which was added later, services passengers traveling to the Caribbean and Mexico and can handle up to 1,400 customers per hour. T5i has six arrivals gates, inspection services, passport control machines, and global entry kiosks, along with numerous environmentally friendly features.

Our services and commitments to jetBlue for the T5 and T5i projects at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) involved presiding over monthly management meetings, conducting trade contractor negotiations, establishing an effective project organization, providing input on value engineering, advising on schedules/phasing, overseeing construction manager negotiation, managing the general conditions, and implementing systems, controls, and procedures. We worked in tandem with the jetBlue team to establish a procurement plan for multiple contractors, and expedited procurement to avoid impacts from approval processes. To reduce risk, and in a creative break from traditional practice, we broke out trades to smaller packages. With the contractor and design team, we established a pre-test strategy that was coordinated with the Port Authority in order to secure occupancy on an accelerated schedule.
