Portland International Airport

Cumming Group has played a vital role in the Portland International Airport PDX Next Program, providing a full spectrum of services for the airport’s ongoing upgrades since 2018 — including the airport’s Concourse E extension, parking garage & rental car center, Concourse B expansion, and the new Main Terminal Core expansion.

In order to help increase airport capacity to serve over 35 million passengers annually, the first major project was the Balance & Concourse E extension. Cumming Group supported the project management of 145,000 square feet of space at a cost of $185 million which included 9 new gates, 6 restaurants, 3 retail spaces, a vibrant kids play area, and a major art installation. Cumming Group’s expertise in project management ensured effective coordination and timely completion.

To enhance convenience and streamline operations, Cumming Group provided multiple services on the parking garage & rental car center. This impressive four-story, 95,000-square-foot Port operations office building includes a rental car center and offices for TSA, police, and Port emergency teams on upper floors. Cumming Group played a crucial role with senior PM and move management services of the rental car center, ensuring a smooth transition for staff and operations.

The heart of these upgrades is the Main Terminal Core expansion, which aims to create an awe-inspiring space that connects with the Pacific Northwest’s natural landscape. The expansion features a wood roof sourced from local landowners, and the roof modules, each built nearby, were meticulously transported and precisely positioned using cutting-edge technology. This ambitious addition covers one million square feet and comes with a price tag of $2.15 billion and includes check-in ticket desks, restaurants, stores, and advanced TSA check-in facilities, pre-security market featuring notable Oregon vendors and touch-down spaces, a mezzanine restaurant, and concert steps. The architect on the Terminal Core Expansion project is ZGF and the general contractor is Hoffman Construction and Skanska Joint Venture. The project is targeting completion in 2025.
