The design of the new nine-story, 334,000-sq.-ft. Children’s Hospital and 425-car parking garage, along with other street, wayfinding, and entry improvements, provided a fresh and modern update to the Legacy Emanuel Medical Center campus. The hospital’s architecture was designed to be bright, optimistic, and complement the existing buildings. The design maximized views of the natural landscape, took advantage of natural light, and maintained a connection to the community through the extensive use of glass in public spaces and private rooms. The Green Guide for Healthcare (GGHC) was also followed to document the sustainable features of the project, including a rooftop healing garden for patients and their families.

Cumming Group worked closely with the design and construction teams as well as hospital and facilities staff to create an extensive equipment list with over 20,000 items and implement a move transition plan with multiple departments, including a 45-bed NICU and 25-bed PICU.
