St. Charles Health System, Bend, OR

Cumming Group provided project management services for St. Charles Health System and their Imaging Projects aimed to address the critical need for replacing aging imaging equipment and introducing new technologies to enhance healthcare services in Central Oregon. The primary goal was to replace various imaging units that had reached the end of their service life, including the Redmond CT, Bend X-Ray 2, Bend Cath Lab 2, Bend Cath Lab 3, and Bend MRI. Their primary concern was to complete the equipment replacements and installations promptly to prevent any interruptions in patient care due to equipment failures. The project’s scope of work involved a comprehensive range of services including project coordination, contract management, design document reviews, budget negotiations, construction oversight, permitting assistance, quality control, and closeout management.

The team also overcame several challenges during its execution. The inspection and approval process for a temporary trailer too much longer than anticipated, posing a significant risk to the project timeline and financial implications for St. Charles Health System. To address this, the project team collaborated with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to expedite the waiver request, successfully minimizing the delay to just one week. Additionally, the temporary CT trailer arrived with several issues, including a faulty CT scanner and HVAC unit. The team collaborated with Catalina Imaging and GE to expedite necessary corrections, ensuring a safe environment for patients and healthcare providers. PKA served at the architect on the project with Skanska serving at the general contractor.
