Cumming Group was hired as an extension of the project management team to help guide TriMet through this 58,000-sq.-ft. project. The scope of work included relocating and combining the Light Rail Operations Command Center from Ruby Junction with the Bus Command Center to a new facility at Center Street. The center tracks 600 buses and 50 light-rail sets spread over 500 square miles. and features a training center, emergency operations center, data center, office space, conference rooms, and supporting activities.

Cumming Group provided the technical experience TriMet needed for this update and move to a secure location. The center required sophisticated tools and extensive computer systems for both the rail and bus dispatch for the entire TriMet service area. The facility features a 31-foot-long video display that shows the entire rail system with real-time train locations and track controls. The floor is raised for tech access and is tiered to allow the two rows of control operators to see the display. The Control Center is a 24/7 facility. The facility’s first floor remained open for the bus drivers and fare collectors throughout construction.
