We are excited to welcome Mark Smith to the Cumming team. Mark will be leading our Denver office and their efforts to provide cost management services to Denver and the surrounding areas. Mark is a construction professional with almost 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector, with expertise that spans multiple continents and includes work in the commercial, retail, education, residential, and healthcare sectors. Mark has vast experience undertaking quantity surveying duties from initial feasibility through to completion on a wide range of projects on behalf of both contractor and client-based organizations, including new-build developments and refurbishments. He has specialized in cost planning and control, contract administration, value engineering, risk management, and supply chain management.

How long have you been working in the construction industry?

I have been in the construction industry for nearly 20 years; six of those years have been here in the USA. I have mainly been a quantity surveyor, but I’ve also done some claims work as well.

What brought you to Cumming?

Cumming has an excellent reputation in the construction industry, so when the opportunity came to lead the Denver office, I couldn’t turn it down!

What advice would you give to those in the A/E/C industry?

My advice to anyone starting in the industry would be to try and gain as much experience as possible in all sectors, and to allow yourself to be flexible and open to all sorts of opportunities!

What are some of your greatest accomplishments?

Professionally, some of my greatest achievements were when I became RICS-accredited over 15 years ago, as well as successfully delivering numerous multi-million-dollar projects spanning from campuses to multi-story offices and hotels. I am also proud to be leading an excellent team here in Denver.
