WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION WEEK
Kristen Pyle, Vice President, Contracts + Risk Management
“Every job is a ‘craft’ and what differentiates you is how well you do it and how good you are at it.”
What led you to construction?
I worked in construction early in my career on a heavy-duty dirt work crew. Understanding how things are done in the field makes a huge difference in how you plan for them, and how you negotiate up front.
Who inspires you?
Negotiating fair deals between all parties is wildly inspiring. In my position, I never stop learning and no two projects nor owners are the same. We have the opportunity to impact the A/E/C industry and create a better experience all around for all involved, and that inspires me to stretch and drive improvement.
What advice would you give to women starting out in the industry?
Dig your heels in, outperform and out work everyone around you, continue learning, and never stop getting better at what you do. Every job is a ‘craft’ and what differentiates you is how well you do it and how good you are at it. Don’t settle for second best.
