Cumming Group is acting as Project Manager and Contract Administrator on the project which is part of a wider 180,000 sq ft mixed us scheme. The 35,798 sq ft office space at The Lantern was crowned ‘Best Commercial Workplace’ at the British Council Offices London Awards Lunch on Tuesday 25th April.
With a focus on wellbeing & sustainability and a BREEAM Excellent rating, The Lantern uses low carbon technology and high thermal performance as standard. The use of photovoltaic materials and solar pre-heating of water also mean a 10% carbon reduction. The development also manages to recover up to 60% energy discharged from the mechanical air ventilation systems to preheat the incoming fresh air.
From a wellbeing perspective, thoughtful landscaping, biophilic design and ample natural daylight help to enhance occupiers experience. Whilst a feature stair in the atrium encourages occupiers to walk between floors to encourage activity and promote chance encounters.
The building carefully reuses elements of the original building, while delivering a light-filled space with five terraces and a double height reception, as well as a gym and health centre to promote wellbeing and productivity. The judging panel unanimously praised the development for its creative integration of mixed-use spaces.
Described as ‘A smart building that champions sustainability and human efficiency, The Lantern has a multitude of features which set it apart from other buildings:
- Touch free entry using biometrics which can link to smart phones or access cards.
- Destination lift control to increase efficiency, reduce waiting and prolong lifespan.
